| What a great idea to have a Fête Champêtre to close off the AGRIVA Markets season. This activity could even become an important annual event for our community. It could be a way to celebrate the end of the growing season for our producers but also a way to welcome autumn and winter which are very active seasons for the community. Children are also back to school; families are back from holidays and back from the cottages. The community is vibrant again. The day will begin as usual at 10h with the opening of the AGRIVA Market. During the morning and the afternoon there will be clowns, games, and a local food lunch prepared by the Daughter of Isabella which will be served under a large tent. The event final program should be soon available. Even if most of the AGRIVA booths will be reserve for the regular producers, the group hopes that the rest of the available space on George Street will be filled up by other things! As a community we need to use our imagination - everyone is welcome to join the Fête Champêtre. The decoration will be representative of the fall season. People are welcome to wear the straw hat and find a costume. Very interesting that the Fête Champêtre occurs in the same weekend as the Irvin Blais show to be held on Saturday evening and the Club Action's partridge festival to be held on the Sunday. Great synergy! The History of Fête Champêtre A Fête Champêtre was a popular form of entertainment in the 18th century, taking the form of a garden party. This form of entertainment was particularly popular at the French court where at Versailles areas of the park were landscaped with follies, pavilions and temples to accommodate such festivities. While the term is derived for the French expression for a "country feast" and in theory was simple form of entertainment in practice, at least in the 18th century, a fête champêtre was often a very elegant form of entertainment involving on occasions whole orchestras hidden in trees, with guests sometimes in fancy dress. It will be important as a community to support the event. The best way to achieve this is to participate. Contact 'La Centrale' at 372-2838. |
